CHEN Yi Ching is a Taiwanese painter currently living and working in Paris. She is best known for her large scale polyptychs. These multi-paneled screens depict contemporary landscapes garnished with explosions of blossoming flowers. Her other large works also derive their inspiration from nature using traditional Japanese painting techniques and materials.
CHEN Yi Ching is one of the rare contemporary nihon-ga artists in Europe, who has lived in Japan and studied under renowned Japanese masters. Admitted to the faculty of Fine Art, at the Kyoto City University of Arts in 2002, she was a student of YAMAZAKI Takao, the distinguished master of the Nitten movement. In 2003 she won the prestigious Grand Prize of the Shouhaku Museum with her painting entitled « Kabocha » (« Pumpkin »). Her talent and potential were recognized by UEMURA Atsushi, one of Japan’s great masters of nihon-ga and she was awarded the opportunity to study under his guidance following her Masters Degree.
Greatly admiring the work of the late 19th century Impressionists, CHEN Yi Ching moved to France in 2004. She continues to develop her own artistic research and pedagogy in Paris where she has an established nihon-ga atelier. She is the author of the first book in French on the practical technique and history of nihon-ga « Découvrir la peinture nihon-ga , Art Traditional Japonais », published in September 2012 by Editions Eyrolles.

Originaire de Taïwan, Chen Yi Ching réside et travaille actuellement à Paris. Elle est principalement prisée pour ses imposants polyptyques de paysages et d’efflorescences, qui étreignent d’une émotion profonde quiconque les contemple. Comme de ses autres œuvres de grand format, se dégage une poésie précise et délicate qui traduit avec une singulière intensité les splendeurs d’une nature animée, son thème de prédilection.
Chen Yi Ching compte parmi les très rares spécialistes de peinture japonaise contemporaine exerçant en Europe, ayant bénéficié sur l’archipel de l’enseignement de grands maîtres nihon-ga. Admise à l’Institut des Beaux-Arts de l’Université municipale des arts de Kyoto en avril 2002, elle étudie plusieurs années auprès de Takao Yamazaki, représentant notoire du mouvement Nitten. Elle emporte dès 2003 avec son tableau Kabocha le prestigieux Grand prix du musée Shouhaku.
Ayant obtenu son Master de peinture japonaise, Chen Yi Ching gagne la France, berceau de l’expérience impressioniste dont elle se sent familière, et dont elle empreint bientôt sa recherche artistique propre. Elle se consacre depuis à la préparation d’expositions personnelles dans les galeries et institutions et a participé à plusieurs expositions collectives. Chen Yi Ching a également publié en 2012, avec les éditions Eyrolles, le premier ouvrage francophone sur la peinture japonaise, son histoire et ses techniques.
